 Soccer Foundations

Our Soccer Foundation logo
At Open Goal Soccer, we believe every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and shine on the field—no matter where they begin. Our Soccer Foundations program, designed for all ages is an adaptive learning, introductory private class designed for children of all ages and abilities, including those who benefit from extra support, structure, and encouragement. It’s the perfect first step before transitioning into our team-based programs, creating a safe, supportive, and joyful environment where every step forward is celebrated — with optional Buddy support available for children who benefit from extra guidance.”

In these instructional sessions, children build the fundamentals of soccer—dribbling, passing, ball control, and movement—through fun, play-based activities. We focus on more than just the game: kids also develop teamwork, communication, and perseverance, skills that will serve them both on and off the field.

Our coaches are specially trained and experienced in adaptive learning methods, ensuring that activities are tailored to match each player’s pace and style. Every child feels included, confident, and ready to grow into the team environment when the time is right.

Whether your child is brand-new to soccer or eager to strengthen their skills, Soccer Foundations offers the perfect path to build confidence, friendships, and a lifelong love for the game.

EXPLORE

Blue Sky

We believe every child deserves to feel seen, supported, and confident as they learn and grow. Some children feel most comfortable when they have an extra, familiar presence alongside them—and our Buddy Support option is designed to provide exactly that.

As part of all our programs, families may choose to have their child paired with a trained Buddy who offers gentle guidance, positive encouragement, and steady support throughout the session. Buddies help children stay engaged, navigate activities, and feel secure, all while allowing each child to participate in their own way and at their own pace.

For many families, having a Buddy creates a sense of ease and reassurance. Children often feel more confident trying new skills, joining group activities, and enjoying the experience when they know someone is there just for them. At the same time, the group setting remains playful, inclusive, and joyful.

All Buddy pairings are carefully considered and closely supervised by our coaches, ensuring a safe, respectful, and welcoming experience for every child on the field.

Why join our Adaptive Program?

For too long, many children with unique learning needs have been overlooked or excluded from team sports. Traditional programs often move too fast, expect one-size-fits-all learning, or don’t provide the patience and support these kids deserve. At Open Goal Soccer, we believe every child should have a place on the field — and that belonging can change everything.

Our Adaptive Program is built to give children who may have been marginalized in sports the chance to:

  • Feel Included – Every child is welcomed as part of the team, no matter their pace or style of learning.

  • Build Confidence – Coaches celebrate effort as much as achievement, turning small steps into big wins.

  • Learn at Their Own Pace – Predictable routines and adaptive coaching ensure kids can grow without feeling rushed or left behind.

  • Develop Social Connections – Soccer becomes a bridge to friendship, communication, and shared joy.

  • Experience the Joy of Play – Above all, kids discover that soccer is fun, safe, and theirs to enjoy.

Because every child deserves not just a game, but a place where they truly belong.

What we Provide

Inclusive Environment

Our programs are designed to welcome every child, regardless of their starting point. Small groups and patient coaching ensure each player feels safe, supported, and celebrated.

Adaptive Gameplay

We adapt activities to meet the needs of each child—whether that means slowing down, offering visual cues, or adjusting the flow—so every player can participate, learn, and enjoy the game at their own pace.

Caring
Coaches

Our coaches are specially trained to balance soccer fundamentals with social-emotional learning. With compassion and encouragement, they help children build confidence both on and off the field.

Family Connection

Families are part of the journey. We invite caregivers to support from the sidelines, celebrate small victories, and share in the joy of watching their child grow through play.

Pathway

By week 8, children will understand the basic rules of soccer and feel more confident on the field — kicking, passing, and moving with the ball.

For new families

We offer a first trial session to make sure this program is the right fit for your child. To secure your spot, full registration is required in advance. If after the trial you decide the program isn’t the right match, we provide a full refund—no questions asked.

What to expect

Each week follows a predictable routine that helps kids settle in quickly and feel comfortable. Sessions start with simple warm-ups and progress to step-by-step skill activities using visual cues and fun challenges. Players learn how to dribble, pass, and control the ball, while also practicing how games work—understanding turns, following rules, and working together. Children are given time and flexibility to learn at their own pace, and every effort—whether it’s trying a new skill or remembering a rule—is celebrated. Families are welcome on the field for extra reassurance and support when needed.

Preparing for play

We know that every child’s needs are different, and we want each player to feel comfortable from the very first session. For our adaptive players, we work with families to provide guidance and simple tools—such as visual cues, pre-session reminders, or step-by-step routines—that help children transition smoothly into play. Our goal is to create an environment where every child feels safe, supported, and excited to join in.

Why parents love it

Soccer Foundations balances the fundamentals of soccer with the fundamentals of growth. Parents value the small group sizes, patient coaching, and the way sessions combine physical play with important life lessons like resilience, respect, and teamwork. Most importantly, they love seeing their child not only learn how to play soccer, but also leave each class smiling, proud, and ready to come back.

Uniforms

Each child enrolled will receive an official Open Goal Soccer shirt as part of their registration. This shirt helps every player feel included and part of the team from day one. Players should wear comfortable athletic shorts, socks, and either sneakers or cleats depending on the playing surface. (Sneakers are required for indoor sessions.) Extra shirts are available for purchase if needed.

Location

Our sessions are held at Flushing Meadows Park in the heart of Queens, NY, with the option of nearby parks when needed. We love giving children the chance to play on open grass fields, where they can move freely and enjoy the game in a natural outdoor setting. During the colder months, we may bring sessions indoors so players can continue to learn, grow, and have fun in a safe, comfortable environment. Families will always receive the exact field location before the semester begins, making drop-off and pick-up simple and stress-free.

Missed sessions

We understand that life happens — kids get sick, families travel, and weekends can get busy. To support our families, missed sessions may be made up within the same semester only, based on coach availability. If your child needs to miss a class, just reach out to us and we’ll do our best to find a make-up time that works. This way, every child stays on track while keeping our programs consistent and fair for all families.

Flexible Payment Options

We understand that every family’s needs are different. That’s why Open Goal Soccer provides flexible ways to pay. You can pay in full using any major payment method, or choose convenient installment plans,

Our priority is to make soccer accessible, affordable, and stress-free — so your child can focus on playing, growing, and having fun.
