Rising Stars

Designed for ages 5-8

Rising Stars is where children begin to truly enjoy soccer while building the confidence and social skills that will stay with them for years. At this age, the most important thing is not how well they can dribble or score—it’s how much fun they have while discovering the game in a safe, encouraging environment. What makes Rising Stars different is our focus on connection before competition. Each session follows a familiar routine so kids know what to expect, helping them feel calm and comfortable from the start. We use play-based activities, small games, and colorful visuals that invite kids to move, laugh, and explore with the ball at their own pace. Coaches give gentle guidance and celebrate effort, making sure every child feels included and proud.

WHAT MAKES
RISING STARS SPECIAL

The Rising Stars program is designed for children who are ready to take their first big steps into the world of structured soccer play. At this stage, soccer becomes a bridge between fun and skill-building, helping kids discover not only how to play the game, but also how to grow as confident teammates and individuals.

We begin with Respect for Every Child’s Journey. Each player comes with their own personality, pace, and potential. Our coaches meet them where they are — whether they’ve just left Mini Kickers or are joining us for the first time — and guide them toward new milestones in both soccer and personal growth.

In Rising Stars, every practice is a Safe Space for Growth. Mistakes are reframed as learning opportunities, and effort is always celebrated. Children learn that their voices matter, their choices count, and that they are free to explore without fear of judgment.

Success is no longer just about participation — it’s about progress. We focus on Building Confidence Through Success, giving players the chance to master new skills, experience the joy of scoring, and feel the pride of contributing to a team. These experiences spark resilience and determination that carry beyond the field.

Our values of Patience and Understanding remain at the core. We recognize that development doesn’t happen overnight. Coaches take the time to guide children step by step, offering gentle correction, steady encouragement, and the freedom to learn through play.

Finally, Rising Stars thrives on Community and Connection. Kids learn to pass, communicate, and celebrate victories together. Families cheer on not only their own child, but every child, creating a culture of shared joy and belonging.

What we Provide

Inclusive Environment

Our programs are designed to welcome every child, regardless of their starting point. Small groups and patient coaching ensure each player feels safe, supported, and celebrated.

Adaptive Gameplay

We adapt activities to meet the needs of each child—whether that means slowing down, offering visual cues, or adjusting the flow—so every player can participate, learn, and enjoy the game at their own pace.

Caring
Coaches

Our coaches are specially trained to balance soccer fundamentals with social-emotional learning. With compassion and encouragement, they help children build confidence both on and off the field.

Family Connection

Families are part of the journey. We invite caregivers to support from the sidelines, celebrate small victories, and share in the joy of watching their child grow through play.

Pathway

By week 8, children will be comfortable in small scrimmages, understand basic rules, feel confident kicking, passing, and turning with the ball.

For new families

We offer a first trial session to make sure this program is the right fit for your child. To secure your spot, full registration is required in advance. If after the trial you decide the program isn’t the right match, we provide a full refund—no questions asked.

What to expect

A Rising Stars session may begin with a fun warm-up like “red light, green light” or chasing colorful cones, followed by simple ball games that encourage running, kicking, and sharing. Kids then transition into small, playful scrimmages (3v3 or 4v4) where the focus is on having fun together, not keeping score. Coaches emphasize patience, turn-taking, and encouragement, creating a positive environment where children feel safe to try, make mistakes, and grow.

Preparing for play

We know that starting something new can feel big at this age. That’s why we partner with families to make the transition as smooth as possible. For children who benefit from extra support, we offer simple tools like visual cues, gentle reminders, or playful pre-session routines to help them feel ready. Our goal is to create an environment where every child—shy or bold, cautious or energetic—feels safe, supported, and excited to join in.

Why parents love it

Rising Stars isn’t about rushing into technical skills—it’s about falling in love with soccer, making friends, and gaining confidence in a supportive space. Families appreciate the calm structure, small groups, and the way every child comes away smiling, proud, and eager for the next session.

Uniforms

Each child enrolled will receive an official Open Goal Soccer shirt as part of their registration. This shirt helps every player feel included and part of the team from day one. Players should wear comfortable athletic shorts, socks, and either sneakers or cleats depending on the playing surface. (Sneakers are required for indoor sessions.) Extra shirts are available for purchase if needed.

Location

Our sessions are held at Flushing Meadows Park in the heart of Queens, NY, with the option of nearby parks when needed. We love giving children the chance to play on open grass fields, where they can move freely and enjoy the game in a natural outdoor setting. During the colder months, we may bring sessions indoors so players can continue to learn, grow, and have fun in a safe, comfortable environment. Families will always receive the exact field location before the semester begins, making drop-off and pick-up simple and stress-free.

Missed sessions

We understand that life happens — kids get sick, families travel, and weekends can get busy. If your child needs to miss a class, just let us know in advance. Missed sessions can be made up within the same semester, based on coach availability. This way, every child stays on track while keeping our programs consistent and fair for all families.
